Joe Nardone presents an incredible five act “Oh What a Night of Doo Wop and Legends, Volume 2” on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. Tickets previously purchased will be honored on September 11, 2021. Headlining the show is the legendary Jay and the Americans. Starting in 1962, JATA charted twelve top 10 records on the Billboard charts. Their hits include the amazing “Cara Mia,” “She Cried,”
“Only in America,” “Come a Little bit Closer,” “Let’s Lock the Door (and Throw Away the Key),” “This Magic Moment,” “Some Enchanted Evening” and “Walkin in the Rain.” Original members Sandy Yaguda, Howie Kirchenbaum and Marty Kupersmith, as well as lead singer Jay Reincke, continue to thrill fans around the world.
Pennsylvania native “Lightning” Lou Christie is world famous for his soaring falsetto vocal prowess, still intact after all these years. Co-writer of most of his hits (unusual in the 1960s), Lou’s signature smash was “Lightning Strikes,” which hit #1 in the US and Canada on his 23rd birthday. Other hits included “The Gypsy Cried,” “Two Faces Have I,” “Rhapsody in the Rain,” “I’m Gonna Make you Mine” and “Beyond the Blue Horizon.”
Appearing at the Kirby Center for the first time is Brian Hyland. At age 16, Brian had his biggest hit, “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini,” a #1 Billboard smash. Other hits included “Let me Belong to You,” “Sealed with a Kiss” (#3 on charts), “Ginny Come Lately,” “Warmed Over Kisses (Left Over Love),” “The Joker Went Wild” and “Gypsy Woman”(#3).
Gary US Bonds had major hits in the early 1960s, including #1 smash "Quarter to Three." Other hits include 'New Orleans" (#6 on the charts), "School is Out (#5), "Dear Lady Twist" (#9) and "Twist, Twist Senora." (#9). In the 1980's, Bonds collaborated with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, resulting in "This Little Girl" (#11) and "Out of Work" (#21). Gary also co-wrote "She's All I Got" in 1972. Recorded by Johnny Paycheck, it was nominated for Country Music Song of the Year.
Opening the show are The Fireflies, a doo wop group from Long Island. Their hits were "You Were Mine" and "I Can't Say Goodbye." They were the first all-white vocal harmonizing group to perform at the world famous Apollo Theatre and are the perfect opening act for the show. Five great acts; one great night of countless hits.
